I DELETED THE BEST PHOTOS I ever took!!
I went outside this morning even before I had a shower, I took about 20 photos of a tiny Baby Grey Fantail. I got so close to it, I could have touched it. All fluffed up calling for his Mum, the little bird was not worried about me. If you remember my wren photos, these were even better. I always upload after I looked at the photos, but today I didn't. When we got to the beach, I got the camera out of the car, and.....deleted what was on there. I knew the second I pressed the button, toooo late. Now, I NEED THERAPY. I sat in the car and cried. Has anybody else been that stupid before??? Do you feel my pain??
Have you taken any further pictures? If not those files MAY be recoverable, they may still be anyway but the more you write to the card the more deleted files will be gone forever. It's possible to recover from formated drives too, but not guarenteed.
Do a search for a file recovery tool or if you're not confident take the card to your local PC guru, you may just be in luck.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks for that advice, I just rang my PC guru, he works for Telstra, he said the same as you. He will come and pick the card up during the week, to see what he can recover? like you, he worried about me having taken more photos. See what he can do?. I do have a second camera, a replacement, because my husband broke Nr1, but then SONY replaced it, because they thought it was a manufacturing fault, (might have been?). How nice of Sony to do that. Again, thanks for trying to help.

Here is a pic of a baby mangrove fantail to tide you over until you recover yours Araminta.
Thanks so much, Headsie, the little one is just beautiful. I'm beginning to feel better, I will get up early again tomorrow, who knows, it might come back to the same spot? Most of the time juveniles stay in the same shrubs. What a great photo.

I think we have all done that at least once, M-L. If you deleted them (as opposed to reformatting your card) they should be recoverable. I downloaded a free (I think it was a trial version) bit of software called CardRecovery.
Good luck. I look forward to viewing them.

Hope you get some photos back M-L. I've had times where I've deleted the good photos and left the crap ones, puts you in a bad mood!
Cheers, Owen.
Well it is a good lesson for us all - always carry a spare card or two with your camera as now you know it is possible to recover files, if you have a spare card you wont be tempted to overwrite files deleted by mistake.
I don't have that problem as I take crap photos so it is no big loss if even the less crap ones are deleted - geez I wish we still had smilies. ;)

Thanks to "GeorgeP" and the "SONY CardRecovery" I now have all my deleted photos back.
And I didn't need a "PC guru". my little old self did it all. That boosted my confidence!LOL
Should that ever happen to you, you CAN DO IT!! ( and it's free to download from your camera maker)
I'll look at them later and will post some, thanks for all your help and support, M-L

Alison, what are "smilies"?
There is no such thing as "crap photos", it's the love for what ever is in the photo, and the passion and pleasure of taking them, that is important!!!!
I just had a look at the photos I so desperately wanted to recover, the ones I concidered so beautiful, they are beautiful to me, might not be to others. Doesn't matter, the birds and the love for them is all that's important! M-L

I'm pleased to hear that you were able to recover your shots, M-L. Can't wait to see them.

Sorry George, you must have missed them, I put some before. But here is one of them, just for you. Enjoy

What a top story this one is, I to have done that Araminta but unfortunately I just thought they were gone forever and that was that......lol
Thanks to your story and George I have learnt something. They were well worth recovering......nice shots !!!!
I seem to be missing something. Have you posted the photos - or is there just the one?
I am keen to see some more. I have been taking some recently and I posted some (nothing like yours M-L) because the brown colour confused me. The ones I posted (see http://birdsinbackyards.net/forum/Identifications/Rufous-Fantail-ID-please) have similar colouring to the one above from Headsie, but Araminta's one is not brown. Are the brown ones 'Grey' Fantails or not?
Regards Roger.
Hi Roger, there some under "the missing Grey Fantail Baby", you have to look for that. Here's one more for Roger
