They are gorgeous. They look like immature males. I had a full adult male land in our bird feeder yesterday, and I think at least one more, but the rainbow lorikeets scared them away before I could get a photo. Lucky you!
Lovely close up Soakes. I hear them every morning in my neighbourhood but rarely see them as they camouflage well high in the canopy. I only see them when they change trees!! They seem to never come down to the areas where I could photograph them unfortunately.
Bird shots like these make me want to make extended trips to the big island, mate. Next year I'm planning on a 4 week driving trip to escape the Tassie winter, but as yet haven't make up my mind whether to head to the outback or to FNQ. I guess that from Melbourne I would see a greater diversity of birdlife if I chose FNQ - altho' I don't wanna end up gettin' bitten by a Cooktown croc', mate. :-(
