Mistletoebird mouth full

Caught this female Mistletoebird in the act. We thought she'd bitten off more than she could chew but we were wrong. She managed to get it down just fine.

Very nice shot Richard. It looks funny to see birds struggling with big berries.

Cheers, Owen.

It's amazing what some birds can manage. I've seen a few pelicans with fish sideways in their necks, but they eventually get them down

Thanks for the comments. Birdgirl, I had a photo of a pelican with its bill down over its belly, an amazing shot. Alas, someone stole our laptop bags and the external hard drive with all our photos and this was one I was particularly sad to lose, not to mention all the other trip memories. But, we soldier on and head off on other trips and hope to see something equally as spectacular. We are off to Kakadu this weekend for a couple of weeks and hope to have lots of wonderful family experiences.

Oh Richard that is horrible to think someone would do that and take all your precious memories. With regards to the bird in question above....good capture of the moment ...considering their size it is hardly surprising that ANY berry they eat would be too big for them !!!
I have been trying to get a grip on blogger to follow a few blogs .... and found out I have several identities on there!! Haven't got a clue what I am doing..even lost my own blog for a while LOL :')

Hi birdie, yes it was awful, tears from the whole family. But we are over it now ... well, kind of, still makes us upset to think of all those memories are gone and can't be replaced. The great thing about blogger is it is free and there are SOOOO many bird bloggers out there with fantastic photos and stories. And I have lost my blog a few times too! :-)

I guess it is a good reason to make a few DVD copies of your stuff just in case..I started to do that and then I lost track of which had been copied and which hadnt! The most disappointing thing for me is that when I got the fantastic series of Osprey shots last year, I copied them to another drive and somehow, I have deleted without copying the best ones! Luckily I had stored some on Flickr. Do you have comments disabled on your blogs? I tried to make one but couldn't find out how to do it ! I hate all the sign on stuff that seems to be all pervasive in google...and am paranoid about signing on and then being signed in to everything without signing off ...... maybe I am just getting too old for this stuff LOL

Hi birdie, you've managed a couple of times before. Comments are enabled on the rwsboa2011.blogspot.com blog, but the wfstwitch.blogspot.com one I think needs to be commented by a member (google membership I think).

LOl...that is what I mean.... I was on there but couldn't do it...then I realised I was somebody else ....too funny really and I couldn't get back to who I was. I tried to rind my other sign on and somehow they all seemed to blur into the one ...i gave up in the end as I was getting hopelessly lost ..ha ha

LOL birdie, that sounds like a few hundred quid for a psych session to me! :-) maybe there really is a "middle earth" - the Hobbit I think - but it is "middle google earth" where you lose your own identity and become someone else!

Sometimes when I delve into some of these sites too far, or into my laptop files for that matter... I feel the need to throw a rope out just in case I never find my way back :')

I think when it gets to that stage, time to shut the laptop, grab the camera and head outside! :-) Do you ever get up to Boreen Point? almost bought the boat hire business there 13 or 14 years ago but they were asking way too much. Lovely spot. or it was, haven't been there for over 10 years now.

Hi Richard, forgot to say, I am so sorry about your laptop and hard drive! And, I love the photo of the Mistletoebird, I haven't seen one in my neck of the woods. (It has to be said, your photos look so nice and "normal", just the way I like them, untampered with. You know, what I mean?)M-L

Hi Araminta, thanks for your thoughts and comments, much appreciated. I've actually gone back to a more normal setting on the camera now, as I realised anything that wasn't grey or brown was being over "flushed" with colour and not what the bird was looking like. I am enjoying this setting more on the camera and the photos although not as "vivid" are more what I see with my own eyes when I am taking the photos. This particular one was very close which I felt excited about not for me, but my 7 year old who was standing with me. He just couldn't stop talking about it on the way home in the car and then couldn't wait to show the rest of the family the photos he had taken.
