I often see the resident pair of the Penrith Valley, out near Castlereagh. At least weekly, sometimes more than once. They seem to have fairly regular lookout perches, such as this one along new Castlereagh Road, near Penrith Lakes. I was able to walk almost to the base of this large tree on this particular morning with three of my dogs while the female was perched on her fave branch - she is far more approachable than her mate. Then I even had time to drive home, grab my camera and come back to walk back to the tree. I was pretty pleased.
Good work to get her perched Akos. Not much beats seeing these guys close up. I'm surprised you had time to go all the way home and back, usually when I do something like that the bird is long gone!
Cheers, Owen.
They are such a magestic bird, look at the size of the talons. We have a pair close by, between Emerald and Berwick. Sometimes the circle very low over our property . Last week we went to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, when we came around a bend in the track, there was an Eagle sitting in a dead tree, right above me. I took a good photo of him, just his head, I had the big lens, and he was too close. Three years in a row, some Wood Ducks had their young in our paddock, only for a day or so, as they made great meals for the eagles. Now the ducks have decided not to come back. In the last weeks I had a Square-tailed Kite fly over very(!) low, but he didn't hang around for long enough to get the camera. Thanks Akos, for posting some of your great photos, M-L

Great shot we never seem to get close enough to get a great shot. We did manage to get some great ones last week of Brown Falcons at the WTp though. Would love to get one of these. She looks so majestic sitting there. Awesome
Just an amazing bird - well done!
Wow ...that is an awesome looking bird! Does that mean she had a full crop so she was still for a long time? I remember you telliung me that oince about BOP

Yeah, maybe she just ate. Incidentally, I should really look under the perch for prey remains. Even bones can be useful as they tell us a lot about what they've been eating.
Thanks for the kind words. :-)
wonderful shot, thanks for sharing. I've never seen one close up, 'cept in zoos. Love to see one like that in the wild.
What a spectacular bird and a great photo opportunity. I have only seen them soaring a very long way above me. I'd love to see more of your shots, especially owls as hardly anyone else posts them
If only we could see an owl I would also be so happy to post the shots ! Love the close picture of the eagle, it does look so sure of himself. Guess he has reason to do so.

Wow, what a lucky experience Akos.
