I am now a fully paid up member of the sewage treatment plant in weribee, with my own key to the special 'birding areas', woohoo!
Here is some of yesterdays finds, feel free to correct any wrong names.
the 'escapee' zebra finch that Tassie ID'd a few weeks back..seems to be thriving on the outside!
Yellow spoonbill
black-winged stilt
straw-necked ibis, this one I posted because of the bright red skin under the wing, someone (think it was Birdgirl?) remarked on it a while ago, and thought the bird was injured, I would have thought the same had we not had the discussion on here.
ornage-headed cisticolla 'singing out'
white-faced chats?[img]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/4530711939_ebe3cee55d.jpg

nankeen kestrel
and this one I spotted while taking pics of pelicans, gulls and cormorants roosting...he was sat amongst them, a big BoP, maybe an osprey?? and a shot of his underside if that helps with ID
and just a footnote for anybody visiting the western treatment plant...don't wait to catch the sun go down on the black swans! after this pic I got hopelessly lost, very disconcerting driving in the dark along the dirt tracks with lakes either side and wishing you had left before the sun went down and NOT had the 3rd cup of tea from the flask too!!
that said, it was a very enjoyable visit and one I will be repeating:)

sorry must have been chatting when I posted these before :)
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Great pics Hev,hopefully we can get down there soon.
Firstly I think I might help ID some birds, I think the Ibis is an Australian White Ibis as it also has the red under the wing and the straw neck is not apparent, just remember that the AW Ibis has white wings and the Straw Necked Ibis has black wings, an easier way to ID. The BoP is interesting and I cannot give a certain answer as the first photo looks urely to be an Osprey but the 2nd photo makes it look more like a Brahminy Kite, so, I can't say. Some beautiful photos though, wish I lived close enough to go :D Especially like the Cisticola.
Hi Amateur, spot on with the Australian white Ibis, thanks. The BoP is defo not a Brahminy Kite though. this is a pic I took on Fraser Island...very different.

Sorry, I meant a 1st year Brahminy Kite
hmmm no still can't see it... beak is not the right shape is it?

Wow Hev
what a great place for birds! Your pics are going from strength to strength I must say. GREAT subjects adn super captures. You must be really happy with that lot. My faves are the Nankeen Kestrel and the Cisticola ....woohoo :)
I think the BOP could be White Bellied sea Eagle but I am no expert that's for sure.
How I wish I could have a day out like that !

thanks Birdie, I think it's down to practice practice and more practice, that and a few tips from better photographers!
hmmm could be white bellied sea eagle... location is more appropriate than for an Osprey, I have seen a few there flying low over the lakes.
As for the wishing.... would love to return favour (from my trip to Queensland)when you next visit Vic.say the word..I'll be ready and available!
