When the whistling kite flew over to a power pole it was mobbed by other birds. You can see it opening its beak as they fly at it. Sorry the photos are not sharp - it was late in the afternoon and I was a long way away from them. I hate having such a good opportunity and not getting a sharp photo.

Whistling kite being mobbed
Not to worry too much over sharpness when you've successfully captured the event, birdgirl. Again, great lighting.

Gidday Birdgirl,I totally agree with Tark.
Love the shots and thank you for sharing.
As a matter of interest do you know what species of raptor was doing the mobbing?
By the way I really like #4 & 6.
Thanks. I would also like to know what bird is doing the mobbing - I was hoping maybe Denis or ed would know. I was on the other side of the road (maximum zoom). A smaller raptor with a grey speckled breast flew over earlier, but I didn't see it interact with the whistling kite.
Looks like a Black Shouldered Kite.

Gidday Birdgirl,I saved that pic and had a play with it but I just can't get it clear enough for a positive ID.
here a BSK taken yesterday

How exciting! I have been admiring aa's and Tassie's photos of black-shouldered kites, never thinking that they might be around here. But I saw in my field guide that they are found all around Australia. Thanks ed. By the way, lovely photo.
