I set my alarm for 6 o'clock this morning because I wanted to see if the BOP were feeding or courting early in the morning. It was so cold my eyes were running and my hands were throbbing. I wanted my scarf!
Last night I read the advice from my firends on BIBY and read some articles and parts of the manual and made some changes which have improved my exposure enormously. I set partial metering instead of evaluative, tried 1/3 exposure compensation to start and used aperture priority, then set ISO to get the shutter speed I wanted. I'm happy - I don't feel as if the exposure needs correcting with this lot. The last lot I had adjusted the exposure, so the originals were a lot darker.
I haven't attempted histograms yet - that is a brand new world.
These two seemed to be doing a courtship flight but kept going behind the trees
This one seemed to have something in its beak, unless I can see its tongue
This shows one underwing and one top wing. None of my guides show the top of the wings stretched out, but that is sometimes all you see
There were a couple of incredibly fast BOP that really set the miners off and did very rapid flapping. I think they were Australian hobbies

Wow Raptorgirl, I mean Birdgirl, they are unreal shots....top stuff, well worth fighting off the cold for I would say...thx for sharing.
Hi Tassie
Tell me when you get sick of looking at the same bird! For me it is now a quest to get courtship photos and to improve the quality
If you look at the first one, you will see that she (I am assuming its she on the right) is head down with talons out
Gidday Birdgirl.....I will never get sick of your Raptor shots, I absolutely love them and I am sooooooo happy for you that you are able to get them.....Plzzzzzz don't stop posting them they are brilliant !!!!
Awesome shots BOPGirl2009. :) You did well with the new settings and seems it was definitely worth putting up with the cold to get these shots. You are so lucky to be able to find them every time. I agree with tassie. Keep posting them. Well done.
I was born to live and I live to die.

Cheers, Owen.

Brilliant shots Birdgirl, well worth a bit of frostbite.
A great series Birdgirl..... i know the feeling with the running eyes, I have trouble spotting the birds in the cold dry weather. Not that our weather is as cold as yours would be but it is cold enough for me LOL

Great stuff Birdgirl, love them. my money would be on 'brown falcon' for the last shot.
