Wrens cropped and resized

Now I'm trying to crop and resize to get a decent size image. Could somebody please tell me what is the best size image to post - mine just turn out the right size when I upload and post them, so I haven't chosen a size before

Exquisite little birds... great capture birdgirl. How did you get them to sit still like that?

Now they're seriously good shots of wrens, Birdgirl. Still nice and sharp after a substantial crop. Did you use the 1.7x TC for the originals ?

Cheers,

Thanks everyone
Birdie - I think I saw them before they saw me. I only had a moment and had to take them as they were, with leaves in front, before they moved on
George - Yes I did use the 1.7x TC - it is on the camera most of the time now. It was hard to get sharp shots of fast birds with my dog tugging at one arm (which was holding the camera). I have been putting in some more time taking photos and reading the new bird photography books I got - I undertand a little more about what settings to use under what conditions now. I also cropped and resized with picnik (from flickr) for the first time - I usually just reduce the image size (of the entire photo) in photoshop before I upload

Birdgirl, cropping to subject, 500 wide, has made all the difference to the presentation of your work. It appears that there is no strict limit on the height, so sometimes I go as deep as 800 if it suits the picture. I have many times wanted to suggest it but without knowing what software you had, I was afraid of just confusing you with tech-talk.

I love both these shots and especially the way the first one is peeking thru the reeds. Very well done.

Hi Birdgirl
When I saw these I had not seen your original images. I am so impressed by the end result of cropping. Your lens and camera have done a pin sharp job to result in such a successful dramatic crop. There is no way in hell I could ever hope for that with the EF100-300. For all that I am a Canon loyalist i know there is a world of difference between the amateur range and the good lenses.
look forward to seeing more of your stuff!
Are these all taken around the area where you live?

To me the grasses in front just add to the drama, I forgot to say!!

Thanks again - you've all inspired me to keep trying. Birdie they are everywhere around here - I saw another lot today when I went for a walk, but I didn't have my camera because I thought it would rain (it didn't and I saw a flock of red-rumped parrots on the ground where I could have easily photographed them). I tried cropping and resizing some older superb fairy-wren shots - isn't the breeding male beautiful?

Fantastic shots!
I'm so jealous, you took these with your dog's leash over your camera hand? Wow!
I have a group of wrens that live on my property and I see them every day out the window, but I have no chance of them staying still long enough for a decent photo!!
It sounds like all your study of photo techniques has paid off that's for sure.

Hey great shots Birdgirl. What lens do you have? I empathize with the dog pulling on your 'camera arm'.... either that or they just decide to explore that 'interesting bush' while you are poised to get 'that shot of that bird IN that interesting bush' ... gotta love 'em.
Really well done, beautiful wrens.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Tassie

Good on you Birdgirl,nice shots.
Heva,I remember lining up for what would have possibly been one of my best Red Backed wren shots of 3 Females and one Male together when my young fella walked into view and shook the bush. (Little darlings) :)

hey Tassie, well I guess at least we can use dogs 'n' kids as an excuse for the one that got away ... just like fishermen, but instead of saying "yeah it was THIS big" we could say "yeah I was THIS close to getting my photo of the year" hehe!
Keep on trying :)
Hey I have been down to the park looking for that Bassian Thrush 6 times now.... nowhere to be seen.
