An interlude with a Golden Whistler

Well, my rainforest walks and recordings were well rewarded today when I switched to a new location in the forest and after walking right through it and getting disappointed that I could hear stuff but not see it..... I walked into a glad nearly back at the start of the circuit and startled a whip bird at close range ( didn't get a photo as you only get the one chance with them) then I heard the Golden Whistler's call at close range. As I sat in the forest for the next 30-40 minutes I was enchanted by the sounds of the whip birds calling close by and by this little fellow flitting all around me and singing his heart out which I think was a distraction to give his mate time to get to her nest and protect it.

The lady in question turned up and he went into full swing as she disappeared with a beak full of something

I was so happy to enjoy his company for all that time... what a sweet little bird and a beautiful song.

Great shots Birdie. We hear the whistlers a fair bit but they are often difficult to spot!

Great pic's birdie.
Could watch and listen to them all day.
Sounds like a wonderful place you get to walk around.
Hope you can catch up with that Whip bird next time. May be try a different colored shirt. Lol

Not such a funny thing to say actually... I am seriously thinking of getting some birding gear, as unlike my prey I can't just turn my back and disappear into the foliage !! LOL

Great shots birdie; it is a really beautiful little bird. I got a brown shirt and a khaki hat but they still saw me. Being still for a long time is the answer, I think

Hi guys , for anyone who is interested in hearing this delightful call, I have made a short clip and posted it to you tube..the pics are not good quality but it is the best I can get on there. The recording does not do it justice like it does on my home computer but at least it is recognisable.
