Bird of the Week Challenge: 1st Feb - ravenous raptors

Great Aussie photos last week everyone. Hope you all have an exciting week awaiting you this week.

Another one that has been done before for this week - the raptors. So share your photos of eagles, kites, falcons, goshawks, and owls too.

I'll get the ball rolling with my only Owl photo.

Looks like a slow start to this weeks challenge.

A Spotted Harrier from one morning on my way to work in July 2014 (straight from the memory card) and have only seen it a couple of times since.

Samford Valley Qld.

I took this shot of a WBSE getting chased away by Magpie larks in the Richmond lowlands a few weeks ago.

This should be fun. Looking forward to some raptors.

That owl doesn't look like it plans on sharing dinner. Great stare you got there!

I have an unhealthy number of Nankeen Kestrel shots to share, but let's start up close and personal. Not sure what it's doing with that grass stem.. picking some rodent remnants from between its "teeth" perhaps :P.

I love the raptors, small and large. Will never tire of them! Always interesting seeing smaller birds chase off the big raptors. I've got some unfortunately unsharp pictures of a crow chasing off a kite, but that's nothing on magpie larks picking fights with an eagle.

Wow! That is a great shot Mike.

Thanks! A bit of a fluke really, but I'll take what I can get. One of those times the bird came flying past so close and fast that it was just a matter of swinging the lens and hoping for the best.

I thought that I might start showing my face around here again. Hello again everyone. This is a Black-shouldered Kite that photographed at Western Treatment Plant in Werribee (or Avalon) in Victoria. If ever anyone wanted to see one of these wonderful birds I would take them to this very spot as they are always around, watching over Port Phillip Bay.

Well done Rick - not an easy shot to try.

Great Photos. I love the Falcon Rick & would love to see a Hobby.

A Spotted Harrier after he caught some prey. Pity it was in his right foot.

I'll second that. Haven't fared super well in my brief peregrine encounters.

Lovely light in that BSK shot, Quiet Miner.

Love your work Rick. You can see the concentration without seeing its face.

Not a gret Pic, but this swamp Harrier was looking for breakfast.

I really like that shot Devster, showing the Swamp Harriers underwing. Looks like it is about to shed those 2 secondaries.

I would be happy with that shot, Devster. Great lighting on it.

Wow.  Just signed up.  Looking through these shots each week could get too addictive! Love the raptors. Here is an Osprey from Caloundra - from last month.

Must be happy with that BSK, rawshorty! Looks pretty menacing, and the head-on shots are never easy.

Jealous of the ospreys. Welcome, s.pratt!

A young BSK from a couple of hours ago. Had a good run with the raptors these past couple of days, but this is the best shot I've managed. My first Brown Falcon and Aussie Hobby within a day of each other. Good times!

Found the Grey Goshawk again today. I hate white birds, so hard to get a good shot of them.
