Bulk tree purchase

Hi everybody,
I am looking to purchase a large number of native trees (probably several hundred - maybe more than a thousand) over the next year or so and plant them on my property. Obviously part of the reason for this is to develop habitat for birds and other animals.

Equally obviously, if I pay just a few dollars for each tree I am going to be up for a *lot* of money!

Does anyone know where I can buy a large number of native trees for a very small price? I am in Gippsland, Victoria.

Hey Soakes,

Go through the earlier posts in this forum. I think there's a thread about a seed exchange system, through which people can get seeds (maybe even plants?) for a very low price, or maybe even for free.

I think that within one of the posts there was a link to a website dedicated to the exchange program.

However... it's possible that all of that is a false memory.

Andy.

Hello Soakes,
Your local landcare group will have a tree nursery that sells tubestock at a very cheap price (in comparision to commercial nurseries).
A telephone call to the catchment management authority or the local DSE/PV office will put you in contact with the right people.
As Ken07 mentioned, there are various government grants available for landholders. Again, the landcare group or cma or dse will be able to help.
Good luck with your plantings.
