Yay.... Summer is coming then . I have been hearing Koels for nearly 2 weeks now and keep forgetting to post it . Love that sound too.

Had a CBC trumpet 6.30am at springwood N.S.W thismorning 21/9/12.
Should not be long before the Koel sets up camp then!

They've been in western Sydney for about three weeks now.
I heard a koel this morning, 8.00am in Baulkham Hills. He seems to arrive in October every year. I managed a photo one year of the male, he's very elusive though.
I heard a koel while out doing bird surveys last weekend in Brissie, so they are here too.

Yes they are well and truly here now. I have watched over this past week a pair of friarbirds building their nestcup in a tree, this morning I could hear them making a lot of noise and upon investigating I witnessed a CB cuckoo sitting on their nest, which took off when it saw me. I dont know if an egg was laid by the cuckoo, however the friarbirds eventually went back to the nest and have continued organizing/rearranging it. Whether or nor they abandon it, only time will tell.
Still havent managed a sighting of a CBC this year, and havent heard them much, but the koels are everywhere....but I can never seem to spot them!!!
How good it would be to see the CBC sitting on a nest .... not for the Friarbirds I guess but hopefully they will raise whatever is in there

How good is that bit of timing. Never have I see any cuckoo sit on any nest .luck you Now that's a lifer.

Yes it was all a bit quick though. Obviously the cuckoos were also watching the friarbirds, but I think they got their timing wrong because they hadnt quite finished the nest when the cuckoo arrived. Subsequently the friarbirds have abandoned the nest, probably with cuckoo egg inside. Oh well, such is nature, although I wouldve liked to have watched a baby cuckoo being raised.
