Chestnut Quail-thrush

Last month I visited Hattah-Kulkyne National Park in search of Mallee Emu-wren and Striated Grasswren. I did manage to get fleeting glimpses of both species, no decent photos though. This fella however was the sighting of the trip for me, my first ever Quail-thrush of any species.

Great work- I only have 1 possible sighting (which could have been 50% wishful thinking)

Very nice. Difficult bird to get an image of. Well done.

Well done. I hear they are very hard to get a decent image of. I'm yet to see one.

Thanks everyone :)

Yes, I was surprised by how fearless this bird was. I spotted it run off the track about 50m ahead and when I stopped at the spot I expected it to be gone but it was right by the road, picking through the leaf litter, totally unconcerned about who was watching.

I wonder if that's an indication of its confidence in its camouflage, akasha.

Or maybe hunger overrides fear.
