I live in Ivanhoe, approximately 10 km NE of the Melbourne CBD and for the past week a pair of Eastern Koels has been frequenting the large trees in my garden and the surrounding area. I've been able to clearly see both male and female and also hear their distinctive calls. This is a typical suburban backyard area, albeit with several blocks of land much bigger than normal and quite a few large, mature eucalypt and introduced trees.
I was wondering how unusual it was to see Eastern Koels in inner suburban Melbourne? Everything that I read indicates that their range doesn't extend this far south. Do koels regularly visit Melbourne?
Cheers,
Geoff

This subject has come up a bit before, there are a few other threads as well i think, under Koel, eastern Koel and common Koel.
