Fairy Wrens at night ?

I am new to this site having just googled Fairy Wrens calling at night because I could hear a lot of calling in my front yard and wasn't sure if it was them. So I am here to ask if they call at night? It is 9pm.

I think this looks like a great website. I am not experienced at bird watching but can generally ID all the birds in my backyard but amazingly I saw 2 new ones the other day, i think one was a scrubwren and the other a flycatcher. I'm hoping to learn about birds here.

My garden is like a little oasis in my street because there are only a handful of people that like gardens, others prefer cement.

Hi Margaret and welcome. I don't know if they call at night.  I assume you've read their ID at this site and even heard their call?  We have wrens on our property but I can't say I've heard them at night. That's not to say they don't but someone else might know.

What state are you in?  I'm in Vic and am a relatively new member here but have been around for a little while. I came here to ID birds I take photos of.

Welcome, Margaret. I don't think you'll get much noise out of wrens at night unless they're frantic about the presence of a cat or fox.  I suspect the calling in your front yard is from another source.

HI Margaret.... it is funny you shouold say that becasuse a few weeks ago I could have sworn I heard wrens at night too..... I think I may have come to the conclusion that it must have been crickets or something though. Must look it up.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm in sydney, western suburbs, near Parramatta. I went outside but there were small somethings? i thought they sounded like wrens but not that clear trilling, now I'm having trouble remembering, the sounds they make to each other, i think. Anyway as I couldn't see them but they saw me and flew away, i started to think they could have been tiny bats but don't know what made me think that. My brother saw tiny bats out at windsor so I thought maybe that's what it was. I have 2 cats - should i admit to that on here? and they are inside at night, but one of them and the dog were very interested in the noises from the front yard.

Hi Margaret,

Where we live (Hunter Valley) it is not unusual to hear the Willie Wag-tails calling at night - so far haven't heard any Wrens calling though.
