During yesterday's fierce winds several large branches came down from our forest red gums. Among the branches and all alone on the ground was a baby eastern rosella.
It made me happy that the rosella was there because I did not know, though I had hoped, they were nesting in our yard. It made me worried about the welfare of bubba on the ground.
I dried him off and kept him hydrated, warm and dark overnight and first thing this morning climbed up a ladder to the tree he came from and jammed a nesting box in place with bubba inside.
We have seen Mum and Dad flying around and heard calls back an forth and then left the scene so a reunion could happen.
It was very tempting to go up and see if he was still in the box and if mum and dad had found him but I was advised to stay clear as this little fellow has most of his feathers and colour and will only be a short time away from flying off.
I took a photo of him in the nest box but sadly it did not do him justice. His colours were surprisingly bright, they don't show up that way in the photo.
Well at least you have done what you can Wollemi.
Yesterday afternoon the parents were circling aorund so we left the scene, and hoped for the best, this morning the chick is no where to be seen. So I dare say the parents have lured it to a safe place, or another animal has found it, I'd lke to think the parents have taken it away somewhere.
Happy Birding!
