Gang Gang Cockatoos

Hi, I have seen over the past few days some small grey cockies in and around our garden. I've never seen them in my 16 years here. After some research on this site I'm sure they are Gang Gang cockatoos. It's very exciting to see new birds in the area but am wondering why all of a sudden they are here??? I live in Warrandyte, Victoria. Feedback greatly appreciated.

That is great news, they are not as common as they used to be, when large flocks of them flew over where I live. (Gembrook)

I get some in my trees, sometimes at dusk they even come down for a drink . Take some photos of them, that would be great.

Here is one that I saw at my place .

(you might have to wait some time for the photo to upload?)

Is there any relationship between the Black Saturday bushfires & the appearance of gang gang cockatoos in your area, rob.libby? Bushfires generate new growth & life so there may be new or increased food sources that are benefitting the cockatoos.

Coming back to the "not uploading photo" what is the story here???? I haven't done anything differently to what I normaly do, why isn't it working?

I always put this sort of thing down to CSI (computer stupidity & inconsistency), Araminta. Ms Woko believes there's always a rational reason for these things happening whereas I don't think the world is a very rational place at all.

They are such lovely birds.

P.S. For the site maintainers, there is still an opacity of 0.9 applied to the link for this image, resulting in it looking a bit washed out!
