G'day from Benalla

Just signed up and a keen birdo.  Had a Barking Owl in the backyard tonight, first one for me and rapt seeing it.  Caused me to come and have a look at the site.  Enjoying what I have seen so far.

I am also controversial in that I am actively trapping Indian Mynas, Blackbirds, Starlings and House Sparrows to bring back natives to my garden.  I also have no introduced plants apart from my wife's roses, bulbs and vegies.  I also like eating Duck and have even eaten the odd native pigeon when fed to me.

My favourite birds are robins, flycatchers, wrens and raptores.  Emus are just plain stupid and bustards are just plain arrogant!  Powerful owls are majestic and the cheekiest birds are those that love cheese!

Welcome to the site, Peter. We can certainly do without those species you're trapping so good on you for that.

I'd be very wary about encouraging native birds to eat cheese. For more on that type <artificial feeding> in the search box near the top of this page.

Well Peter, welcome to the forum.

There is nothing controversial about trapping Mynas, as long as you follow strict rules of disposing of any birds/animal in an ethical way, that is not causing the birds pain or any suffering?

I'd be very interested in how you handle that problem. Although these birds are invasive and cause a lot of damge to our native birds, no animal deserves to suffer pain or be treated disrespectful.

(As always, I now add, this is my personal opinion and might in no way represent anybody else's opinionwink)
