Has anyone ever had to deal with Masked Lapwings with chicks?
At my work , in a retirement village under construction in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, it seems they have built their first unit/combined sales office right smack in the middle of their nesting area.
For Magpie. I have always been told that that was a plover and so took it for granted.
I have been spending quite a bit of time trying to identify various birds in my area on the ID pages and came across it today by accident.
I have always been unafraid as I walk close to Magpies and Butcherbirds etc in my local area, as they are very friendly but not so the Masked Lapwings -
They are unbelievably aggressive, and it wasn't until two days ago that I discovered the reason - two gorgeous little chicks that are just miniatures of their big parents.
The trouble isi I have to walk around the village and they are becoming very troublesome! i would never do anything to hurt them though, so I'll just have to put up with it
I am really concerned that with so much development around this area, what happens to the birds? and the rest of the wildlife, where do they all have to go to? Every time I hear a chainsaw now I worry about all the natives in that tree.
