Channel-billed Cuckoo

Hearing the southerly movements of arriving migrants, my friend messaged me from Raymond Terrace this morning, where he had to go for work today. He heard his first C-b C there today. :-) They'll be in Sydney within the week!

Yay!!! Can't wait for them to come, I owe this bird a lot because this is the bird that got me interested in all birds.

Wednesday 28th Sept heard my first Channel Bill Cuckoo at 0315hrs this morning at Pymble, in Sydney. Hell of a ruckus in the gum trees!

Be interesting to see how far this bird goes south? Never heard them in Melbourne during summers down there.

Only a matter of time now until the Common Koel makes an appearance.

Go Magpies at this weekends Grandfinal Collingwood-Geelong match!

Heard my first CBC up here this morning..... very happy to hear it, and the Koels are going off now, it has all happened with in the last 2 weeks. I love the change of seasons and the different birds they bring :')

Sorry, tomorrow is one of those rare occasions when I'll be supporting Cats, Raven.

Many of our native birds push others out of their nests as well, or even eat the young and some are raucous and noisier by far than these all year round ( try living with a flock of noisy bellowing Corellas around you ) :')
Birds migrate all over the world , Godwits travel from Alaska to NZ ... it is all part of the natural world.
It is funny how people just want to like the attractive birds.

Up early this morning with the binoculars, watched four CBC's flitting from tree to tree with an entourage of Currawongs, Magpies and Noisy Minors in hot pursuit.

The CBC's were clearly looking for nests to lay eggs. I wonder if they select a vacant nest? Or maybe they harass the sitting bird to vacate so they can jump in and lay?

Sad what they do, these immigrant temps (CBC's) will be gone by March and leave a legacy for our native birds to raise.

That is nature and enjoyed watching for one hour this morning as events unfolded.
