Did anyone see Oscar the cockatoo in todays Sun-Herald newspaper (22nd May 2011) in the Domain section page 46?
In the picture you would not credit that Oscar is 28 years old, a great innings!

We have a Sulphur-crested Cockie in our family ,residing with my fathers cousin .I remember Cocky Lewis as he is known ,from when I was 5 or 6 and I'm 57 .But Dad's family had him for 25 years before that .He was taken from a wild nest at Tallarook in Vic ,and lived at the pub for years .
He then lived at the Brickmakers Arms Hotel in Essendon for many years ,where he called "Time Gentlemen" at 6pm ,during the times of 6 o'clock closing .Hilarious to this young boy at the time .
He is still living quite happily although he doesn't call time anymore !!!
I don't think he is that unusual at nearly 80 as some cockies live for long periods in captivity .Google old cockies and you'll be amazed at some of them
Yes, it is true. Cockatoos can live close to 100 years. When I was young we had one in our family that was rumoured to be over 80, but it is hard to confirm such things!
