Hi all, wanted to share a great place with you, about 10 mins drive from Alice Springs, surrounded by the McDonnell ranges and planted with natives and laid out in several different 'habitats' Frequented by many different bird species and also with walk-in 'natural setting' aviaries. We went on a bird tour at 7.30, guided by a bird expert who took us to areas of the park that the public do not normally go, we spotted 18 species of birds in the 2 hour walk, and gained lots of info from the guide. The rest of the day was spent walking around the park, with audio and headphones to give info. The staff were all knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, (even from me ..I had many during the 9 hours we spent there!). Well worth a visit if you are holidaying in the NT, very enjoyable.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Have to agree with you - that place is great. Went there with my wife and kids for a planned half day but loved it so much tht we stayed a whole day. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

thanks..
I will surely get there one day.. hopefully soonish..
Yes, definately worth a visit, we spent the day there, easy to do if you are into birds, animals, nature, beautiful surroundings and great coffee :)
but I guess not for everyone... I read a review on Tripadvisor from someone that said of Desert Park 'very disapointing, lots of birds, different grasses and not much else'... well I guess you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time?!

Gidday Hev, there are some people that should not even walk out their front door because in their opinion there is nothing out there to please them.
I am happy for them to stay locked behind their doors.
:)
yeah, you get all dirty out in the bush.
that nature stuff is sure messy.
Tassie...do you belong to the 'nature police'? uh-oh...look happy her comes Tassie...he'll lock you up if you're not enjoying yourself LMAO!
