I just read with shock and disbelief on the front page of the weekly times that an application has been put to the government to import silver foxes as pets !
It then went on to quote "animal welfare groups"saying there is no proof that introduced animals have had any detrimental effect on native wildlife W..T..F !
The minister is quoted as saying "this is madness"but it will still have to be processed on its merits!
Insane is right, thanks for sharing that I had not heard of this. I found some links - I cannot believe the stupidity in some of the statements or actually, sadly, I can believe it!

It's interesting that governments should still have processes to consider granting licences for the importation of feral species. The clear message is that the value placed on Australian wildlife is still low on the list. Unfortunately, & in spite of all that we know about things environmental, many authorities still don't understand that not only do we depend on biodiversity for our existence but our economy depends on it too. They just don't get it. I do wonder if there's a gene or some factor in their upbringing which prevents many authorities from making the connections necessary for helpful decision making when it comes to the environment & biodiversity.
