I quickly dashed outside to take some photos , one of my Bassian Thrushes just happened to be infront of my kitchen window
I think yours is also a Bassian Thrush. This one is a male , the female was near, she is much lighter in colour. See if I get a photo of her? Back soon, have to find the cinnamon barring around the eye.
I find it very difficult to separate Bassian & Russet-tailed Thrush. On the bird in post#1 I'm leaning towards Russet-tailed due to the extent of the pale tips to greater coverts (prominent pale wing bar), but I need much better photos to be confident with these guys.
HI all , i do a lot of my bird identification off Graeme Chapmans site ,in it he shows the difference between the 2 .I couldnt tell the difference between my 2 untill i looked at his site.http://www.graemechapman.com.au/library/index.php
I'd say Russet-tailed Thrush because of the colouration & triple cinnamon barring around the eye area.

They had gone
But here is a photo of last year's young changing into adult plumage, could yours be a juvenile?

In my opinion, the difference is also in the "black edging to the rump feathers" the Bassian Thrush has.
As far as i know the Russet-tailed Thrush has a white tip on the tail feathers.
Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong? I only have about 5 Bassian Thrushes in my own garden and none of the others

thanks all, I seem to recall recent posting to Birding-Aus suggesting that there would be 1 Thrush species in Australia with 2 sub-species
