Hi Araminta , you seem to have a lovely wide collection of birds . I was just saying to Scott in a message that I have been after the Freckled duck for about a year now . Have you managed to get a photo of one or has anyone else here on BIBY . Would love to see a photo if anyone has. You have made me a crazy posting photo bird lady now that you have kindly explained to me how to upload from Flickr the only thing is now I have exceeded my limit for the month on Flickr and they want a fee to upgrade I am wondering if I should as I have so so many photos of birds sitting on my external hard drive that I would love to share . Keep sharing your photos they are truly awesome the clarity is fantastic you must have a super doper camera . I am still in the novice stages yet with my camera , got my first SLR last August for my birthday , was just using a point and shoot before that.

Hi shoop, thanks for the compliment. I have to say, I appreciate your excellent photography. You can extend your limit on flickr by going "pro" it's only a small amount of money to pay, and you can store as many photos as you want.

I have so many photos sitting in my account that aren't bad, but sometimes I get the feeling not that many people appreciate them, so I don't post. Trust me, I will love all of yours, so far they are great, keep them coming.

Unfortunately  "freckled ducks " are rather hard to find where I live. I got very close to some a few weeks ago, but then my husband scared them offcrying, and I only got some bad photos, but anyway, here is one. Should I get better ones, I'll make sure to show them to you.

TOTALLY JEALOUS .....OMG , you lucky duck ....he is beautiful . I am so anxious now to find one . I have found online a Western Australia Recent Bird Sighting page that updates info of birds and their areas in which they have been sighted. There were 13 seen a couple of weeks ago down at a lake near Collie so we ( my partner and i ) ventured off for the day to find me at least one , but was not lucky . The up side to the day was I was actually organised (for once)  and made a suprised picnic so the day turned out lovey having wine, grapes, ham and brie beside the lake minus the 13 freckled ducks !  I know they are rather rare but I have a bird list of all the birds in Western Australia and i am trying to mark off as many as i can photograph, besides the Freckled Duck I have the Plumed Whistling Duck and the Wandering Whistling Duck to get ( but those 2  are found up North ) so a holiday will have to take care of that dilemma wink. All up I have done about 140 birds out of around 534 on the list, so a ways to go yet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Against my better judgement I'm going to post this crappy one. There were 11 freckled duck in this spot. (Coolart near Hastings Vic) But we went there yesterday, and didn't see anycrying

Should you ever come to Melbourne, let us know, we will point out some places you should go to.

NO No --- the one i use is     www.birdswa.org.au/sightings.htm      The title should be Western Australia Bird Sightings (WABN147) i find it really helpful if you are like me and are screaching for a particluar bird and they update all the time ....man i love birds , it is becoming a uncontrollable obsession . So you are obviously from West Aust then ? Where about if you don't mind me asking Pacman?

Haha shoop and Peter, yes it's an obsession. I also infected my husbandblush, he starts every Friday asking me: where are we going tomorrow? We haven't been home on weekends in a very long time. We could have far worse addictions?wink

(the only other addiction I have is OP shops, I can't walk past any without having a look. As I always say, I could gamble )

Hahaha I too love Op shops yessmileyand I have infected one of my daughters . You are lucky your love for birds have rubbed off on your husband , my partner often says '' bet you wished I was more into birds'' but he is a sweetie cause he joins me on full days out in the bush where i will go off exploring for birds and he sits in the 4wd reading a book , so we both get to enjoy our own little thing in a round about together way. Unless we take the dogs out for bush walks on a Sunday then we go togther !! ( But I have my camera in hand just in case we stumble on some birds) wink

I have one question, does anyone have a photo of a juvenile Hoary-headed Grebe? I would so love to see one?

I spied one lonely tiny little baby on a local river last night M-L, five minutes before dark laugh & my silly loan camera didn't want to play nicely.  It might be a HhG - but my feelings say 95% probably an Australasian given the area crying.  Will try to find out for you tomorrow.  Grebes are such lovely birds aren't they?

Dale, I believe that your bird is an adult HHG in breeding plumage not a juvenile
