ID from Melbourne's Southeast

Hi,

I found this bird digging around in my backyard but cannot seem to identify what it is after a long search. Unfortuately I couldn't get a clearer photo than this. Can anyone tell me what bird this is?

Thanks in advance

Looks like a female Common Blackbird to me, eternalrush. One to be discouraged as it's introduced & competes successfully, unfortunately, against native birds.

Second female Common Blackbirds, locally known as rats of the sky!

Thanks a lot, I didn't know that the bill wasn't always yellow and that the females were quite different in colour and that, good to know but unfortunate that they're invasive.

If you feel inclined to encourage native birds you could discourage Common Blackbird by destroying their nests in spring. Persistence is required as they often rebuild destroyed nests.

And encouraging & restoring indigenous native vegetation will give native birds a better chance at competing with Blackbirds.
