Another ID Please...

Hi, I live in Drouin, Victoria, and just trying to follow up on a bird that comes to visit us. It is the same or very similar shape to a Kingfisher, about the same size as well. Has a straight, longish bill, with a small hook on the tip.
Colours are basically, black back, light brown front, with a darker brown collar... It comes to eat out dog food...

Any ID would be much appreciated. Will try to get a picture of him soon if I can...

Many Thanks, Barry

SOunds like a juvenile pied butcher bird, especially if it is coming in to eat the dogfood. But there are bigger than a kingfisher, usually.
The juvs are brown and white turning black as they get older. They have a very fine hook right at the end of a bill the same shape as a magpie's
Check out some shots on here and see if it looks the same.
I put a post up a few weeks ago about a juv PBB

Cheers

Agree with birdie, the description and behaviour sound spot on for a juv Grey Butcherbird
