These were taken a year ago - Two different birds - And I'm having a little trouble working out what they are.

Anyone care to help me out?

I am crap at identifying birds of prey so I will get the ball rolling and correct me if I am wrong!

I am guessing two kites... number one could be a whistling kite or juv black kite

number two could be a black kite....

Without having looked at any books, for some reason I'm also thinking Black Kite for the 2nd one.

Hi I'll have a go, don't Kites have Forked-Tails? First one doesn't? Second bird could be a Little Eagle? It's hard to tell, how big the bird is? Fill me in about the tail, if I'm wrong, please.

The whistling kite does not have a forked tail, I was thinking Little eagle initially but for some reason the eye and beak looks more like a kite to me.

But alas I am crap with birds of prey!

I was thinking the 2nd one was an eagle of some sort because of the feathery legs. Don't other raptors have bare legs? Correct me if I am worng - which I probably am - I have just started identifying birds.
Anyway it was quite a stocky bird - about the size of a sulphur-crested cocky.

A black kite has short legs with feathers on them. Both the little eagle and Black Kite fit your size description (sulphur crested cockatoo) however for some reason it looks too dark to be a Little eagle... and it is far too dark to be a juv wedge tailed.... I am going to stick with Black Kite.

The 2nd photo is of a Black Kite for sure. I'm not sure of the first.

I have one more photo of each of the birds. The first bird had just taken off. The second one is in a pretty similar position..
