I saw this bird in the backyard of my parents house in Lindenow (Gippsland, VIC)... we originally thought it was a baby kookaburra but it seems to be a little too dark in colour. Can someone please help me ID this bird?

Magpie is right. Juvenile Grey Butcherbird to be precise.

There was a juvenile Pied Butcherbird posted on another thread recently. It had a shadow of the adult's throat marking, whereas your has no throat marking.
