I chased this bird all around my house tonight but couldn't get very close. We think it's a Nankeen Kestrel, are we right? It looks sort of fluffy compared to other photos on the web. Is it perhaps quite young? It is the second time today that it has visited, so it was definitely hunting something, the only thing I could think of that's here at the moment is we have a lot of frogs since it's been quite wet. I also had a visit from a Sacred Kingfisher (I think), would it also be looking for frogs? I have lived here around 20 years and I have never seen a Kingfisher before.

Hi Roger,
I can't confirm on the Nankeen Kestrel, although it looks like sparrow agrees. It certainly does appear to be a young bird based on that fluffiness though.
.
I would agree with you on the sacred kingfisher ID though.

No i don't think its a very young bird, there breeding at moment so its more likely expanding its hunting area to feed a growing family, so keep an eye out over the next few months for young pestering him for a feed, thats really fun to watch.

Grey cap means it's an adult male Kestrel.
