Hi, can anyone help id this bird. It was in my backyard being chased by minor birds and magpies (i.e. Chermside - Brisbane) I have never seen one before. Must be at least 50cm including the tail. It didn't fly just jumped up the tree. Not sure if it is a juvenile.
My mate suggested it might be a Pheasant Coucal? Any help would be great.
Thanks

Help id this bird? Pheasant Coucal?
i.e. my photo is in my avatar. I took that from underneath the tree..
Thanks.
Hi Mangles
cant see it properly but they would be fairly common and the behaviour sounds right. This one is quite patterned but they can appear quite dark at times and have a vwey distinctive hoop hoop hoop call.
They like to hang around hedgerows and thick bushes and can fly if pushed up to a tree. The tail looks right.

BTW... if you want ot upload the pics, you have to use an imaging site between your computer and this site. Like Flickr. This gives you a URL address to copy paste between the brackets in here that will display the photo.
