Was out at Harris Street in Rosebery last Thursday and was walking back from Gardeners Road when I seen a small black bird sitting on the stop sign. A bit larger than a sparrow/willy wag tail, black front with white stripes from the throat running downwards. In seconds it took flight, I wonder what it was? An Aussie native or an escapee?
Isn't it a right pain when you don't have a camera with you at those times? Sorry I can't help.

New Holland Honeyeater perhaps??? Did it show a bit of yellow when it took off? Just a guess :-)
