Sunshine Coast suburban bird

We have a new young visitor to our garden.

the photo shows the bird pretty well (I think)

Does anyone know what it might be?

Is it perhaps a Golden Headed Cisticola? Sorry, the image is very small, but I think I can make out an orange face and brown back that looks like a cisticola. Take a look at the BiBY page on it and see if it looks the same as the bird you've seen. http://birdsinbackyards.net/bird/171

No sorry, taht is wrong, to everyone else who want a clearer pic just click on the image and it takes you to Paradisi's phtos, which are much bigger and clearer on Photobucket (or wahtever it is). Now that I've had a close look at it i'm stumped. I beleieve it's a juvenile, pos. fledgling, so maybe look out for it's parents?

Hi paradisi,

I'm reasonably confident that's a juvenile Brush Turkey.
If you keep your eyes out around the area, you'll probably find a large mound of dirt/leaves etc that he/she hatched out of.
I think the parents just let the heat of the mound hatch the egss, and the little tykes fend for themselves from the get-go.

HI everyone, that's what I was going to say. Here is one little fellow that I have been watching for a few weeks.

And a few weeks later ( I think it is the same one)

They seem so vulnerable as they are ground dwellers and I found a dead one last week not far from a mound. I guess dogs and cats would be the culprits as there are lots of gardens bordering the walkway.

whats the advice - enjoy him/her and hope they build their mound somewhere else or try to relocate??

our garden is only about 250 square metres but is bird friendly

the dogs put up with most birds -except crows for some reason and the place is generally cat proof -though it would be helpful for the prissy missies to keep their hunting machines in thier own houses

any thoughts??

I would suggest letting it be and hope for the best. If you found a dead one It drobably wasn't a cat because it would (in my opinion) have carried it home or eaten it. Dogs i'm not so sure of. I suppose that's the way it goes with ground birds.
