What could it be?

Very briefly saw a single bird today, bright red around eye, grey belly and when it flew away, the corners of it's tail were white. Didn't have the chance to get a photo. It seemed to be flying away from the Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes that live a large block away and that have never been in our backyard before (that I've seen). Could it have been a Figbird...?

Could be, they aren't a lot like anything else as I see except maybe an oreole.

The Olive-backed Oriole has a red bill too and just a red eye, not red around the eye and black spots on the chest area. Was your bird olive green? Either way, sounds like a Figbird I think, which I have still not seen in Sydney. :)
