What kind of Quail is this?

Hi I'm just wondering if someone can tell me what type of Quail this is? I'm leaning towards either Brown Quail or King Quail...?? Also, it's a female.

It is definitely not a Brown Quail. They have much finer markings on chest and abdomen.

.
Size is always hard to determine, but it looks to large for Female King Quail, but females are larger than males in this group of birds.

Might it be a male, just changing to mature male plumage? If so, its real identity will become really obvious soon.

.
You know how large or small the bird is, obviously, so as these birds are common aviary birds, please ask someone on one of those forums.
.
As it is apparently in a cage, and as you know it is female, perhaps it is a caged bird (an imported species?) Head and neck markings do not fit anything I recognise as an Australian Quail.
.

Hey there, thanks for your help :)

Yeah I have tried other forums but am finding it very difficult to get any answers. I have no info on the quail because I've got it on permanent foster from the RSPCA and they have no background on it.

Well, it lays eggs.. lots of eggs.. so I'm assuming it's female? :P

Thanks again for your help

Well, your evidence on its female status is good.
Someone with caged bird experience (on this forum) might be able to help.
At least you are fostering it for the RSPCA.
Best of luck with it.
Let it sit on the eggs and watch what hatches out. Eventually some males will appear, probably.
Quails are popular caged birds, as they live in the bottom of (large) finch and budgie aviaries, just eating the scraps the other birds drop on the ground.

Well she's in the aviary alone (just budgie friends) so I won't be seeing any babies... I've had her for a few months. Thanks for the tips

HI Someuncoolname
IT is a female Japanese quail I had a lot of them when I was a boy if you get a male the female will normally not sit on the eggs I had to incubate them but a lot of fun.
