I found a pretty feather while on a walk today. Hoping somebody might know what sort of bird it came from.
It is a contour feather. It's about 15 cm long and 5 cm wide. It has very thin black-and-white stripes on it, perpendicuar to the feather barbs. From even a short distance it looks grey rather than black-and-white striped. It's very thin, and reminds me of a silk scarf.
My first impression was that it came from some kind of goose, but I don't think there are any wild geese around here (central west NSW), are there?
Wood duck, belly feather.
