Hi everyone..I have a couple more dodgy pics for you to try to interpret..I really should upgrade my camera..
The first little wren/s - some had a reddish rump..just visible in the bird on the left. Taken in Ballina NSW
The next even worse photo will be tricky..sorry.
Many thanks in advance.
Mrs Mack.
the dodgy pics are so dodgy they didn't even turn up..will try again..

Gday mrsmack, don't give up! There are instructions somewhere about how to post photos, and I'm sure that someone will be along soon to give you a hand.
From your description of the wren, I'm thinking maybe a Red-backed Fairy-wren or Variegated Fairy-wren?
Regards,
Andy.
Oh, I see a picture now. I think that's a Grey Shrike-Thrush.
thanks Andy..for the encouragement and the suggestion..here is the link to the wren..

I think that they are Variegated Fairy-wrens, and the male is in eclipse plumage (changing from non-breeding to breeding plumage).
Where were these taken? (That would rule out certain species.)
Andy.
They were taken about 2 weeks ago at Ballina heath behind the beach. There are lots of fantastic wrens about..we have seen variegated, red-backed and Superb in full colour. One that likes to check himself out in the side mirror of my car.
Hi Jo, I like your sense of humour.
"the first one is dodgy" (your words),
"the next even worse", so dodgy, they don't turn up... I looked on Picasa, I can only see a thrush. But I can see you "Rock", must have been a great vestival! HaHa. M-L
