Does anyone know of a book of australian (or QLD) birds that has colour pics of nestlings and fledglings? Most seem to have only adult birds.

Hi casscat, we have a few field guides. The Graham Pizzey and Frank Knight Field guide to the Birds of Australia has pictures of immatures and adults in it as well as breeding and non breeding shots. We find it useful to have more than one guide to go through. We are actually going to get another one on the weekend. Hope this helps.
Hi, casscat. I use Field Guide to Australian Birds by Michael Morcombe quite a lot. It has lots of pics of fledglings with notes about the differences from adults. Once you get into it, if you aren't already, you'll probably want to consult with several guides as cathshane has indicated. I don't know of any guides with pictures of nestlings. Many of the species would be difficult to tell apart.
Thanks for the replies, guys. I ask because a wildlife bird carer I do a lot of transport for was thinking of putting together some info sheets for local vets to help them identify very young birds. Many vets aren't familiar with native birds, so for instance, when I go to collect a rescued 'tawny frogmouth' and it turns out to be a baby figbird, some confusion can occur ;)
Not that it would make any difference, the bird goes to a carer, or is re-united, or released as appropriate. It just helps the carers to have an idea of what to expect and cuts down the traveling time involved for the birds, especially if I am picking up from multiple vets.
Even a website with pics would be helpful.
