Hi From Bellbird in Hunter Valley

Hi
I just was searching for information on the common Koel & I found the site yesterday.
I had a pair of red wattlebirds nesting in our tree outside our house, after watching for a while I realized there baby was a cuckoo of some sort, all it would do is sit there all day & call & boy it grew so fast, the poor parents don't stop, even now he's so big but hes not like other birds that follow there parents to new food places he just sits around here calling constantly all day, to be honest with a baby calling all the time like that I wonder why he hasn't attracted a butcher bird, I will be so pleased when he leaves this area just so he will shut up, I observed a male Koel a couple times recently just sitting in the tree, I think he was checking out the parents feeding his baby for some reason, he sat there for quite a while & they never come down to those trees, you only hear them at a long distance normally.

Hi I forgot if you like you can check out my blog site with pics of my birds, insects & flowers, I know a lot of people don't like to see birds in aviaries, it is one way to have lots birds around you if you love them so much like me, also there are many finches that could end up extinct like the gouldians ect if we didn't have them in aviaries or zoos.
I have since sold them all & put gardens in all my aviaries.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the welcome.
I wish I had the camera gear I have now, I would have had a lot better shots of the birds ect, the old camera was a nikon slr but had to focus by turning a dial, it really was hard to get a good shot, I bought a good digital SLR now so I can focus properly
but due to health & being lazy I haven't used it hardly at all, these days I been playing too many games with my sons online lol.

Hi Fred
I enjoy gardening as well but my health makes it harder these days. yes those tomatoes grew so well, they always grow well but they didn't want to stop,I think it is because of the new soil & a market gardener 25 years ago showed me to grow a certain lateral up to get more fruit on them, plus he also showed me if you pinch the laterals off you can stick in ground & you have new plants.

Gidday Graham welcome to the site mate, I am new on here myself.
I used to breed birds the I had Red Rumps,Neophemas,Stars,Painteds,Double bars, and a few different african finches.
Kids came along and continual dramas with carpet snakes and my job all saw the end to that.
I often cart mining gear down your way into Newcastle and Mt Thorley its very nice country down that way.
I have a Grass Whistlers,Red Backed Wrens,Tawny Frogmouth,Sunbirds,Chestnut Breasted Mannikins to name a few that visit my yard I do not not get the diversity of birds that you would see in your part of the country though mate.
Anyway,enjoy the site mate.
Cheers Tassie.
