I can not seem to be able to ID this bird.

Any help appreciated. Captured at Bollon, West Queensland.

Australian ringneck, mally race. A beautiful bird.

Wimmera mally region, Vic.

Geoff, that’s an Australian Ringneck, I believe. What’s interesting about it is that Bollon is within the range of the Australian Ringneck subspecies barnardi which, according to my field guide, has an orange band across the chest in both adults & juveniles. However, your photo shows no orange band that I can see.

Yes, Barnardius zonarius barnardi.

".. some speckling of red and yellow on chest."

The Ringnecks are notorious for their hybridization so variance is to be expected (even outside of intergrade zones).
