I was watching the birds in my backyard this evening and for some reason one juvenile or female King Parrot kept catching my eye, something was off about it. Upon further inspection I realised it was missing it's tail! I'm quite surprised, I would have thought such a thing would cause a bird to be unable to fly, apparently not...
We used to have a very short-tailed Adelaide Rosella at our place. It flew OK in a straight line but its manouverability was somewhat affected - which might explain why we haven’t seen it for 12 months or so.
