Today I was outside in the early evening watering the garden when all of a sudden a big bright red bird flew into our garden and into the big Frangipani tree we have near our varanda, and I was standing at least less than a meter away from it. I thought it was a Crimson Rosella, until I saw it peeking down at me, and it was a male King Parrot!!!!
We were both looking at each other for a short time and I kept on gooing over how cute he was, and he really liked the attention!!!
He then flew away into the next neighbor's garden and as I saw it fly away in front of me, the colours on it's wings were fantastic, it was dark blue, and had bright neon stripes that almost blinded me with brightness.
I have never seen the King Parrot's wings so close before from behind. I've only seen the green on the side usually.
This is a very special moment for me because we have never had King Parrots in our backyard, ever!
It was truly a magical experience. Time to get some more bird seed! :3

On ya, h.cameron13. If you can maximise the natural & minimise the artificial I reckon native birds will benefit.
They are beautiful birds, aren't they? We get them in our garden fairly regularly, sometimes calling to us. Our neighbour whistles to them and they return the call.

I was whistling to a galah at a cafe once (it was in a cage like ones in a zoo with other birds) and it really liked it. I was also impressed of myself about how well I whistled! Maybe next time i see the King Parrot again I could try what your neighbour does!
lol, I have visions of you out there practicing your whistling
And yes, the King Parrots may well decide they will hang around.
