Those of you living on a bush block can laugh all you want, but I saw my first Eastern Spinebill feeding on a (yellow) grevillea we planted in March 2008 in our frontyard. What I mean is that while I have heard the species and caught glimpses in my neighbourhood over the last four or so years (lived there for over 10) this is the first time one came to my yard.
I am very, very pleased to see a small bit of native patch luring in the magic.
cheers

I'm not laughing, there are many birds in my area other people have in their gardens just up the road from us, but I have never seen them here. Don't scare it off by taking photos,LOL, it might bring some more friends soon.?

Very happy for you Akos, i felt the same way when we had a pardalote visit last week its lovely to have something new visit. Hope she comes back so you can get some great shots.
It's really exciting when that sort of thing happens. I got the same kick when a young Eastern Spinebill was the first of this species to visit us about 9 months ago. I caught just a glimpse but that was enough to send me right off until Ms Woko threw a bucket of water over me. Then when she heard what I'd been going off about I had to throw one over her. (A lot of this is fantasy, of course, but it's illustrative of what happens when a new bird visits).
That's awesome, love new bird visits. Last year I saw one ES in my yard ONCE. This autumn / winter, after planting a lot of natives, I see them almost daily in my little yard in Hobart, even though the plants are obviously still small.
Keep planting :)
Cheers,
Scott.
I saw it again yesterday morning, a couple of times and even managed to record its piping song as it sat in the bush in front or our kitchen. So cute! Very excited and saw it again this morning. How I wish I lived in a place with EVEN MORE birdies.
Eastern spinebill is one of the birds in my area that I would love to see in my yard, I could watch them all day, we did have our first blue faced honeyeater a couple days ago but he wasn't in the trees he was eating one of my dogs half eaten apples, yes my dog eats apples, I'm happy for you and a bit envious, I'm also glad to see I'm not the only bloke who gets a buzz from seeing little birdies in the garden, I look forward to seeing some photos.
The fruits of planning paying off, makes it so worthwhile and to have such a beautiful bird visit is very exciting. Hope it stays around for you.
Regards
Shane
