City of Casey should be commended for putting up signs around their ponds at the Botanical Gardens encouraging people not to feed birds.
It would be an even bigger step in the right direction, to ban dogs from the Park. When I talked to the Ranger(?) today, she told me that many of the birds get attacked by dogs off lead.If people don't understand the regulations, I'm sorry, they should be made to stay away.

Nice one. Hopefully, these sorts of sign will become more widespread where people are inclined to artificially feed birds.
It amazes me when I ask people at a pond in Richmond that they think the birds' natural diet is bread. I always explain the facts and it's great that most understand and realize not to keep feeding.
Funny (not) that many say, "But I only feed them a few pieces". That's when I suggest to them that that is exactly what the other 1,000+ people think who do it. It does a lot of harm!
Marie-Louise, your post has prompted me to finally write to a local council about the feeding practice at a wonderful pond at which I know a lot of people photograph birds. Thanks for the inspiration. Let's see what happens when (if) I get a reply from them....
Good luck Akos, I just sent you a copy of the notice, so you can show them what other councils do.
