Powerful Owl sighting

Hi all

New to the site and though I would share what happened last night in my backyard in southern Sydney.

During the day we discovered a 1m or so goanna in the backyard up a tree, while it kept the kids entertained I discovered it had taken a lorikeet and left the feathers near by as evidence.

The goanna stayed in the tree all arvo and then later that night I went outside to see a massive powerful owl sitting in a limp 10 metres away eyeing off the goanna.

The owl moved to a few different trees over the next 20 mins as if looking for its easiest point of attack due to the large amount of gums in the yard.

Lost sight of the owl but then heard a commotion 10 mins later in the trees. Never got to see what happened but it was bloody awesome to watch how the scene unfolded.

What blew me away was the absolute silence at which the owl flew. It was pretty cool.

i didn't think it would go for a goanna, has anyone else ever heard of this?

That sounds like a very large lizard for the owl to take!

Awesome sighting.

That's what I thought, I didn't think it was possible which is why I'm a little excited when I saw what what being played out in front of me.

I noted in a quick skim of google that a goanna said to be both prey and predator of the Powerful Owl ?

dog eat dog!

It reminds me of black snakes that eat tiger snakes and vice-versa.  Obviously size is a major factor!
