Quackres...ducks bobbing heads?

i reasantly observed ducks bobbing their heads up and drown in small goops.

The ducks were sitting still on the water, very close to each other. When they began to bob their heads. When they stoped, they just sawm on like normal ducks. I don’t know why they were doing this, but I think it’s some kind of greeting.

the species were pacific black duck, I haven’t yet observed any other duck species doing this.

Many ducks do this. It is a form of communication: from greeting, to flirting, to showing happiness. Also to show deference to the Alpha/breeding drake and to signal departure from an area.

Thanks, that’s very interesting. I think they were greeting each other, as they where all landing in in small groups or pers.
