Regent Parrots used to be seen much more widely in the SA & Victorian mallee but numbers declined significantly throughout the twentieth century.
Today I read in The Current, the annual magazine of SA Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board, that Regent Parrot numbers are increasing thanks to a recovery project. Regional "environmental watering...projects are "revitalising...native flora" & "encouraging birds to move from dead to healthy trees in areas with better access to food sources".
