Sea Eagle and Guinea Pig sightings

Taking a walk around Berrinba Wetlands this week I spotted a white bellied sea eagle defending itself as two crows attacked it (they had young nearby).  It didn't stay long enough for me to get a photo even from a distance.

Continuing on I was shocked when a very large, very healthy looking guinea pig hopped into the long grasses on the side of the path.  An escapee or a dumped pet.  I wonder if there are others there too, but saw no sign of any others.

Seems everything was too quick for me to get any pictures that day.

But it sound like you enjoy your day.

See it!  Hear it!

I did.  I love walking through the wetlands.  Much to see and very relaxing.

I wonder if the wildlife authorities have had other reports of guinea pigs in that area, Karen.

Not sure who I'd contact to ask, Woko.  Could try the council to start with.

Yes, always a useful port of first call. The Department of Environment or whatever it's called in Queensland might be helpful, too, Karen. There are often local naturalist & such-like groups which the council might have information about. These groups often have one or more members who collect data about sightings.

A guinea pig would be at great risk in the wild, wouldn't it?  I don't see that it would have the skills necessary to survive for too long.

Hi Karen. I know nothing about guinea pig survival in the wild. Or even the non-wild. However, if there are two guinea pigs of diametrically opposed sexes then there is the risk of an environmental catastrophe. The cautionary principle needs to be adopted I would have thought.

You are right, of course.
