I believe that silvereyes are well known for their feeding on fruit & berries rather than blossoms. However, on 23/5/13 I counted 9 silvereyes feeding on the blossoms of a mallee Eucalpytus. I'm not sure which species of Eucalyptus but this is the first time I can recall seeing silvereyes behave like honeyeaters.

Hi Woko, I have seen them do it.
I don't have any berries or the like in my garden, but I get many Silvereyes, and they are always high up in the Eucalypts or any of the flowering shrubs.

I saw a flock of 30 or more all over some flowering eucalypts in the car park at the marina today. Very common to see and no fruit or berries around here.
I think they feed on whatever's available. When they come through my garden I think they're usually after insects as I don't have any flowering trees.

Thanks Araminta & Wendy. Perhaps their blossom feeding is more common than I thought. I know that they love apricots. At my place, the Ruby Saltbushes Enchylaena tomentosa hadn't produced many berries until a few days ago when they ramped up production after the rain we had. As yet, I haven't seen silver eyes feeding on the new berries yet so perhaps the 9 slivereyes I saw were waiting for berry production to reach a certain level before taking advantage. I shall scrutinise the bushes with an intense scrute.
