How many times have you taken a photo of that bird and found out that it is out of focus? Well perhaps in the near future it will not be an issue as you can focus the photo afer you have taken it. All explained here.

Hey Alex that is an interesting article.... but my problem is ..in our search for perfection we are losing the art of perfection.
You know what? I am getting heartily tired of this world's constant strive for perfection and ease in everything ..... just my thoughts anyway.
No wonder we have a world full of under achieving and depressed children...they are learning that there is no need to strive for the challenge.... their parents can just go out and buy the latest version of whatever !!!
This is in no way a criticism of you for posting this Alex...just my view on things around us :')...sadly!

Oh my god birdie, you are so speaking for me here!!I don't want to live in an easy perfect world. In times long ago and lost, there was the "art of taking a photo", it is so sad, that being able to take hundreds of photos, manipulating then beyond the original, and still claiming that is art, is just sad!! Progress isn't always a good thing! It is almost as if we all looked the same, "perfect" ? There is nothing in this world more boring, than perfection. "Intersesting" is something we all can be. The imperfection is much better, than conformism!! If you would show me 100 photos of a bird,(or anything else), it would be as boring as a beautiful girl without charme!! (if you know what I mean?)The strive for perfection is " killing creativity!", one of the most important thing in our life, and that of our children!! Thanks birdie, for pointing this out, a topic very close to my heart. M-L

I agree with you girls. Partially. :) Having come from a poorer country I can tell you first hand how spoilt kids are here. How little they respect what they have because its just so easy to get. And its getting worse with every generation. Kids don't learn to use their mind because technology helps them do it without thinking. Yeah I hear you, I get what you mean and I agree.
At same time though technology will move on and improve constantly. You can say photography itself is cheating. Why are we using cameras at all. Should we all be painting birds instead? Its not about that. Think about how useful this technology can be for scientists who don't want an artistic shot but may just want to have that photo of the bird which may be hard to photograph. They dont care about it from an artistic point of view. They want a pic that is in focus every time and this technology can give them that.
And even with technology like this you still can't replace the human factor. You can give one of this cameras to a hundred people, put them in the same place and ask them to take the best pic they can get and not all will come up with an awesome photo. There is more to photography than just the photo being in focus.
I was born to live and I live to die.
Yes ALex I don't deny that technology such as this will help police, scientists, forensics etc.
Maybe it i my age, but sometimes it just seems that the rush of technology is hurtling too fast towards a whole new world an we just don't know the fall out yet.
I understand about how quickly it progresses, when I was with Canon we were on film still, then ..one day ....along came the big product launch of EOS... everyone said it would be years (me included) before it ever superseded the traditional film cameras....... yeah right!! LOL
I love technology.... it fascinates me and I love what it can do.... I guess I just question the need for everyone to be able to do everything right there in their own home.... just because it is possible to do so. Can't help wondering where will it all end? I think balance in all things is very important..... I mean Japan is a technology leader...but they still teach their children the art of Origami in all its painstaking steps.

Oops just realised that my wording was wrong here...EOS was first and then later came digital LOL ...before digital we had to have the AF argument...that was a no brainer though with the Pro gear.

Technology is moving way to fast for some, especially old farts like me,but for some its not moving fast enough they line up for latest new gismo and cant live without the newest iphone or whatever,I still write with pen and paper but everyone i know has some sort of hand device and stand there pushing buttons or stabbing it with a little stick, they all try to tell me its quicker or easier, what a load of rot!
They just like all the new toys.
As for digital cameras yes they they have opened up a whole new world never before available to the average man on the street (or woman)but i ask where will it end!the thing is it wont end who knows whats around the corner the mind boggles.I use some new tech. well new to me and others who managed to live before mobile phones I'm typing on a lap top now but call me a stubborn old fool there's things i wont change i will never own a b------ iphone and i use digital cameras for bird photography and for work for the rest i will always use film!
Ha ha go Sparrow..... I totally agree with you ..except I refuse to call myself an old fart LOL . Of course I am not nearly as old as you ;') ( I hope ) and I no longer use film :')
One of the problems I see with the instant generation is the added stress of having to be available to constant interruptions of mobiles and messaging and chat. I am always reminding my teen that she can turn the damn thing off ...or simply....ignore it..... now THAT is a challenge for them!

Like I said befor I understand you guys and I agree with you. But I am open minded to technology. I won't say no to an iPhone just to make a stand but I am also aware of the more basic things in life that kids of today seem not to be in touch with anymore. And that is why we as a society fail in the modern world. There is no appreciation.
I see myself in that generation that saw the evolution of computers, graphics, animation etc. I remember the old cartoons that I watched as a kid and how much different they were. There was a story and a message in each one. And just had that innocent feel. Today look at the cartoons that kids are watching. And this whole damn Bieber like fanaticism that you see young kids brainwashed into. Its all commercialisation and capitalism gone wrong. Meh. I am getting worked up. :)
I was born to live and I live to die.
Sometimes it is good to get worked up and have a vent Alex!!! and as for the whole Justin Bieber or likewise obsession thing...yes ...pure commercialisation and I guess we can thank the new Disney Channel and Hollywood backers for all that! I am thankful that my daughter has grown up in an adult environment and while loving it all ( Disney) she can step back and observe the reality at the same time, or as much as her young brain allows anyway. I see her and her friends acting and dressing exactly the way the Disney stable of ( and very limited stable it is) actors and actresses do on screen....that is the power of the media . And it is why parents and families or friends of families are so important..the old saying it takes a village to raise a child is so true...... unfortunately our village these days is competing with the global media onslaught every day.
Hey Alex if you want to see something moving and heartwarming go to this link and we can see a whole different side of life and what can happen when a child learns how to achieve the hard way .... get the tissues ready anyone who is easily brought to tears LOL

morning all, first things first, I still write letters by hand,on paper even with my old trusted fountain pen! Until my mother died last year, I used to write 2 lettres a week to her.Writing a letter on paper makes you think about what you are saying much more carefully,as we all know, using technology is quick, but after you pressed " send ",it is often too late?! You know me so well Birdie,if I could, I would take the young man home. You and I know, there are thousands like him, those are the people we were talking about before, the "overlooked", so called "underachievers. Thanks for the link. (my bl..y new technology, e-mail still isn't working, might write a letter to you? LOL)

Araminta...if your email isn't working through your normal address then use a web service such as gmail as a back up.

yeah that is definitely a tear jerker isn't it. So talented yet so humble. Amazing that he didnt end up a criminal with such a life as they normally do in the western world. Its a sad fact.
Thanks for the link birdie. Brought warmth to my chest on this freezing morning. Hands are frozen but at least I can still type. Good thing I am typing and not using a fountain pen or the ink wouldn't be runny I dont think hehe.
I was born to live and I live to die.
Birdie mobile phones drive me nuts they always go off when your in the middle of something,my kids cant understand how i can choose to just ignore it,if its important they'll leave a message!
one night watching a movie and my mobile sitting on table starts ringing after the 4th ring my step son (19)cant sand it any more and answers it then hands it to me and says "Its for you"...well duh!
Hi sparrow, you and I had this discussion last year,(I think?)Technology, good or bad, should not be relied upon all the time.Where I live, people think in a bushfire situation, they will get warning via Twitter, SMS,Mobile phones, e-mails etc. They might not! There won't be power, the computer won't work, and we have no mobile phone connection at my place. If you haven't learned how to read a map, look at the wind, and all other signs, you will not have any clue, what is happening. I still use maps, the portable radio, weather station, and all those old tools, to see where fires are, and what the will be doing. If people never learn to cope without mod technology, they can be left high and dry. (very sad and funny story, once there was a fire close to me, I rang 000, the girl's first question: where is Gembrook?, after I explaind about the fire, she said: there is no fire in Gembrook! Me: I can see it, can you please give me the exact location. Her: I can't tell you, there is no fire! I then hung up, got in the car to find it myself!Well, modern technology! LOL)Don't trust it!!!

While on the subject of technology Sunday was Nikola Tesla's birthday the man who invented the means for all the electronics we have today, without him we would still be reading newspapers by gas light to get information, those who dont know who he was might want to look him up we have so much to thank him for
